How to Enroll in a Health Care Plan

It’s easy. Simply sign up during Annual Open Season which happens between November 13th and December 11th, 2023. Just make sure you’re enrolled by midnight on the final day.

Step 1: Select a Health Plan

Review the Health Plan Options and select the plan you wish to enroll in. Consider which plan best meets your needs and who will be covered by your plan: Self, Self +1 or Self + Family.

If you want to keep your current plan, you will be automatically renewed.

How to Enroll in the Retiree Advantage Plan

It’s easy. Simply sign up for a qualifying UnitedHealthcare FEHB enrollment code during OPM’s annual Open Season which happens between November 13th and December 11th, 2023. Just make sure you’re enrolled by midnight on the final day.

Step 1: Enroll in a qualifying UnitedHealthcare FEHB Plan

Retiree Advantage Plan Enrollment

If you are already retired, enrolled in Medicare Parts A&B and a member of one of the qualifying UnitedHealthcare FEHB plans (eligible enrollment codes (AS, JP, KK, KT, L9, LJ, LR, VD, WF, Y8), you can elect the UnitedHealthcare Retiree Advantage enhanced level of benefits at any time throughout the year.

If you are not yet a member of a qualifying UnitedHealthcare FEHB Plan, you’ll first need to fill out the online election form at retireefehb.opm.gov or call the OPM Retirement Information Center at 1-888-767-6738 to enroll in a participating enrollment code.  Participating plan codes include: AS, JP, KK, KT, L9, LJ, LR, VD, WF, Y8. Please note: HDHP plan codes LS, LU and V4 are not participating plan codes for the Retiree Advantage plan.

Do not suspend or cancel your UnitedHealthcare FEHB plan or it will cancel your enrollment in the UnitedHealthcare Retiree Advantage Plan.

Step 2: Enroll by Phone

Call 1-844-481-8821 TTY 711, and select prompt #1.

8 a.m. – 8 p.m. local time,

Seven days a week Monday-Friday,

You may enroll in the Retiree Advantage plan at anytime throughout the year once your UnitedHealthcare FEHB election has been processed by OPM. 

What Happens After Enrollment?

After you submit your enrollment request form, here's what to expect.

  1. We'll review your form and verify your eligibility.
  2. After you're verified, your application will be sent to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) for approval. Please know that approval may take up to one week.
  3. Soon after, you'll receive your Quick Start Guide with member ID card in the mail. It includes details about your specific health plan benefits.
  4. Watch for your Annual Notice of Changes, which is mailed to you every year you're a plan member. It describes your benefits, and any changes to them, for the next calendar year.
